Episode 1: Only the Beginning
“Hey, everyone, welcome to Old Times Talk. I'm your host, Landon, and I'm really excited you guys are here today to join me on this first episode for this show.
The reason why I've started this podcast is, honestly, I love hearing older adults tell stories. They're funny, they're honest, and they're meaningful.
You know, a lot of times, they'll say things that are way off the wall, and sometimes you're like, ah, you probably shouldn't say that, but they're funny nonetheless.
And honestly, I feel like not many people record moments like these enough, whether it's with video or audio, or even writing in a plain old journal. And if those things aren't recorded, then over time, those stories are lost.
And so the goal of this podcast is to preserve those stories and those memories and share them with everyone, because we don't want them to become lost to time. So, what we kind of expect is simple conversations, right?
These are gonna be real memories from everyday people, and I feel that everybody has stuff that's worth remembering. Whether we believe that or not, I think everybody has some stuff in their life that's worth remembering.
So, why do these stories matter? Well, there's wisdom there. And when people share life experiences, they hit a little different.
When you hear things that aren't true or maybe a little fabricated, it's hard to apply it in our own lives, and it's hard to make it applicable.
But when you hear things that happen to real people in real lives, it definitely hits you a little different. And many older adults have lived through times and things that many of us haven't.
Through wars and through even the Great Depression, there are some people that felt the after effects of that. And none of us really know what that feels like, because none of us have grown up in that time.
So many times, hearing these stories can help us slow down a little bit and appreciate our lives and the things we have. But what can you guys expect?
Well, you can expect some light conversations, funny stories, childhood memories, even some life lessons. And honestly, I have a hunch that there's gonna be a mix of serious and fun moments in every conversation.
Because like I mentioned, many old people, they say whatever they want. So I really can't promise you what you're gonna hear. And how it's gonna work is, it's gonna be me and one guest per episode.
I'm gonna ask a few starting questions and maybe a few in the middle of the episode. But the whole goal of that is just to let the conversation flow naturally. And the whole point is to let the guest do most of the talking.
I want them to express their memories and their stories, and I want them to feel like it's a safe place to talk. So there's nothing produced, there's no script. Everything is on the spot.
So honestly, I'm gonna be just as surprised as you guys from the things I hear. And isn't that the point?
That's kind of the human connection and the fun of this, is we're all hearing the same stuff, and we're all gonna have similar reactions, I believe. But stay tuned, though, because our first interview is coming up. It's gonna be a fun one.
Honestly, like, stay tuned, because like I said, I have no idea what's gonna be discussed. We're gonna let it go naturally, and we're gonna see where the winds take us.
So I encourage you to follow this show, and stay tuned, and don't miss any of these conversations, because everybody's a little different.
Some of the episodes might feel a little more serious toned, but other episodes, they're gonna feel very fun and very, you know, laughable. Because some people, they just kind of have that talent of making others laugh.
So I really do encourage you to stay on your toes and turn on those notifications, because when these are posted, you're gonna wanna tune in, and you're gonna wanna tune in quick, because it's gonna make your day.
But at the end of it, this is Old Times Talk. And I'm excited to start this journey with you guys.
And if you know anybody that has stories that deserve to be remembered, or if you know anybody that loves to tell stories, and you feel like this would be a great place to preserve them, send them my way.
I'm more than happy to host them on this show. But with that, I'm Landon, and this is Old Times Talk.”
